Parkes NSW

  This package consists of:

4 postcards
1 bookmark
Fast facts sheet - The Parks radio telescope
Brochure - CSIRO Parkes Observatory

Whilst in Parkes we spent time at the CSIRO Observatory using this as a chance to do a little homeschooling learning.  With a 3D Theatre, Audio Visual Theatre, Cafe and lots of things to see we sure learnt a lot. The giant 64 metre "dish" operates 24 hours a day and is one of the most well known radio telescopes in the world.

" Life engenders life. Energy creates energy. It is by spending oneself that one becomes rich" Sarah Bernhardt

Nimbin

Nimbin was a town I have been waiting to visit for some time and it surely did not disappoint. Colour, music, vibrance and a world of peace and unity can all be found at Nimbin. We had an amazing day there walking the streets and shopping. With a large aray of shops selling everything that is different we found exactly what we wanted plus a lot of stuff we really didn't need.

With cannabis been widely used and sold in public within Nimbin a postcard put out by Nimbin Health and Medical Research Council can be found in every shop throughout town. This postcard ( first pictured) provide 11 guidelines on the safe use of canabis.

Our motto: life is a natural high who needs drugs.

Our positive message:

" How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world" Anne Frank.

The Channon NSW

A sleepy little village with a lot of character, a sentence that sit's nicely with The Channon.  Situated between Lismore and Nimbin we visit The Channon when it was mentioned to myself by my Auntie who had photo's of the town and a friend from when she was a teenage. Our visit enabled us to take a look at the town as it is today and compare it to the town it was.

The Channon is renown for it's amazing markets which unfortunately were not on the day we visited.

 Our positive messages:

" Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot nothing is going to get better. It's not." Dr Seuss

" Individually we are one drop, Together we are an ocean." Ryunosuke Satoro.

Port Macquaire

Sun, sand and surf were the order of the day when we stopped at Port Macquarie. We spent a wonderful week enjoying the sunshine and visiting the local sites. It was here that we visited the Koala hospital and sponsored a Koala named Aussie Mick. Read more about it at http://gabblingaroundaustralia.blogspot.com

The first group of postcards within this set are a group that come from the Arts, Conference and Entertainment Centre. The visitors information centre is all contained within this building. As well as viewing a variety of artwork we spent time learning more about the first lady of Australian Opera, Dame Joan Sutherland. We were lucky enough to view some of her amazing costumes and learn of her talent.

Our positive messages:

"The ancestor of every action is a thought" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

" Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones you'll start having positive results" - Willie Nelson

" Remember there are no mistakes, only lessons. Love yourself, trust your choices, and everything is possible" - Cherie-Carter Scotts

" Happiness is an attitude. We either make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong. The amount of work is the same" - Francesca Reigler

Tamworth, Balranald, Coffs Harbour and Tenterfield

Although cold and breezy when we visited these town we had the time of our life. There was plenty to see and do. Photo's at the big guitar in Tamworth were a must and a stop of at the Big Banana, Coffs Harbour was fun for all. I had been to the Big Banana on numerous occasions as a child and each time a frozen chocolate coated banana was a must. The tradition was kept alive during this trip as I purchased one for each of the kids. Still as yummy as ever!

This was our first trip to Balranald and  we were surprised when we came across all the frog statues throughout town. Well done Balranald for adding something a little unique and brightening the day of tourists with your comical humour.

Unfortunately we only had time for a quick stop in Tenterfield but will revisit when it is warmer and the sun is shining to check out the history and Peter Allen story.

Our positive messages:

We have had to do a return trip to South Australia due to health commitments but are spending our time wisely spreading the word around South Australia till we leave again.
During our trip we have collected lots of postcards which I will be blogging over the next day or two. I wish I could say the postcards are being sent to us at an alarming rate but it seems that people are hesitant to get this project started. Thank you to the few who have sent us their cards.
